Â She’s also soul-bound (meaning she’s a slave) to Conclave, and agreed to the apprenticeship so that she could spy on Silhara and gain her freedom. (I’m not kidding, that’s pretty much what was actually said in the book.) Too bad she can’t carry a tune to save her life. There’s nothing remarkable about her, except that she has a beautiful voice that could make a man come. She’s plain, short, supposedly has the Gift, but it hasn’t manifested yet. This is where the lead female/love interest, Martise of Asher, comes in. Silhara is trying to kill an evil demi-god, Corruption, who’s trying to gain control of him and the entire world, so he takes on an apprentice sent from Conclave in order to help him find the right ritual that will destroy the Big Bad once and for all. Silhara, the Master of Crows, a very attractive, very powerful mage, is not only hated, but most definitely feared, by Conclave (the mage guild.) To them he’s sort of a wild card and no one trusts that he won’t be as evil as his predecessors. So much so, that I kept telling my friends that they should read it too! Honestly, I don’t know why it took me so long to make myself finish this book, but I’m glad I did. Then I kind of put it away until a couple weeks ago when I read it on my flights during my vacation. I ended up not reading it then, because I just wasn’t in the mood, so I put it off and put it off until I finally started reading it a month ago. I bought the ebook last year around October, because it was the alt pick for the Vaginal Fantasy book club that month.
